Rating scale
- 1 — Just starting
- 2 — Developing
- 3 — Consistent
- 4 — Strong
- 5 — Excellent
What to look for
First touch
Cushions the ball into space, away from pressure, ready for the next action.
Passing
Accurate weight and direction with both feet over short and longer distances.
Dribbling
Close control at speed, changes of direction and confidence in 1v1s.
Finishing
Composure, picking a corner and striking cleanly with either foot.
Tackling
Patient, well-timed challenges that win the ball without fouling.
Movement off the ball
Scans early and makes runs that create space for self and teammates.
Positioning
Takes up sensible positions in and out of possession.
Communication
Talks to teammates, organises and encourages.
Coaches record these ratings and notes on each player's profile so progress can be tracked over time.
